Porter Academy
The Pre-Primary program focuses on introducing our youngest students to the joy of learning through a positive interactive experience. Special emphasis is placed on developmental skills, language activities, reading readiness, math and social skills through a variety of fun and engaging activities that include music, arts and crafts, games and physical movement. The program incorporates bilateral coordination activities to foster midline crossing and motor planning skills.
Language Arts and Reading are taught through a multi-sensory approach incorporating a variety of modalities. Our curriculum uses Zoo-Phonics, Explode the Code and Primary Phonics to provide children with an understanding of early phonetic principles. We incorporate stories to teach story sequencing, problem resolution and social skills. Students are exposed to a variety of activities that invite active participation, such as stories, rhymes, songs and many different games.
Students are introduced to beginning math concepts and math vocabulary through a variety of activities and games. We use Math Their Way and follow up with written curriculum from Saxon Math, and Harcourt Brace.
