Porter Academy

Our Students

We serve students in grades K-5 who have difficulty learning in a traditional classroom. They may have mild to moderate learning-style differences, difficulty with attention or focus and related social and emotional issues. We can help with problems such as:

  • phonemic awareness
  • language processing
  • grammar/syntax
  • fine/gross motor skills
  • attention & focus
  • sensory integration
  • auditory discrimination
  • articulation
  • visual sequencing
  • visual-motor integration
  • short-term & long-term memory
  • self-esteem

Our school is a caring place where students become valued members of a social group by:

  • fulfilling their responsibilities to the group
  • experiencing both the pleasure and the stress of friendship
  • learning how to resolve conflicts
  • learning to respect the rights and feelings of others
  • learning to appreciate and enjoy each others' unique qualities

Our students are held responsible for their behavior and their work. They are expected to achieve at their own best level -- less is not okay.
