The Need

It has been shown that early intervention is crucial to the educational success of children with learning differences.  Unfortunately, these children with an "invisible" but very real handicap frequently fall through the cracks in both public and private school systems.

While the number of children identified with these problems has been increasing, there has been a decrease in the number of openings for such children in  private schools. Consequently, there is considerable need for classrooms able to provide specialized instruction, individualized attention and increased motivation so that these children may reach their potential and become productive members of the community. Porter Academy addresses this need.

Our Mission

Porter Academy is dedicated to the education of children with atypical learning styles who have not been successful in a traditional classroom setting.  We serve children who have difficulties with attention, language processing, auditory discrimination, dyslexia, fine or gross motor skills, social interactions, and self-esteem.  Our goal is to help each child appreciate and use his or her strengths to build self-confidence and to acquire the academic and social skills, the knowledge, the motivation, and the work habits needed to succeed elsewhere.
